This week was a historic week in the NBA. The annual All-Star weekend just ended a few hours ago. We at fancy decided to do a quick recap of the whole event for those of y'all who missed some parts of it or were too busy to even enjoy one of the events.
The first event was the CELEBRITY ALL-STAR GAME. Celebs that participated included Justin Bieber, Romeo (formerly Lil'), Scottie Pippen (NBA legend), Chris Mullen, Jalen Rose ( former NBA player and current ESPN analyst) and Rick Fox to name a few. The two standouts from both teams however were Bieber on the red team and Pippen on the Blue. Pippen finished the game with 17 pts and Beiber finished with 8 pts and 4 assists. Pippen's team won the game 54-49 but however, due to fan voting, Justin was crowned game MVP
Next up was the ROOKIE - SOPHOMORE game. With stars like Blake Griffin and John Wall, the rookies were up for a fight against sophomore stars Stephen Curry and Demar DeRozan. In the end though, after a huge display of skills and tricks, the Rookies won 149 - 140 in a glorious showdown. John Wall of the rookies was named game MVP.
After the Rookie - Sophomore game, there was the SHOOTING STARS CONTEST. There were 4 teams that competed in this competition: Team Texas, Team L.A.. Team Atlanta and Team Chicago. Texas were the defending champions and the favourites for this year's contest, but even Kenny Smith's shooting prowess couldn't help Texas defeat Atlanta in the final round.
The SKILLS CHALLENGE was up next on All-Star Saturday. Participating in this event were NBA stars: Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, John Wall and Chris Paul. Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook both advanced to the final, but Stephen Curry was far too swift and composed for Russell. Curry won the event and $30,000 was given to two female students for college studies courtesy of Taco Bell.
Next was the 3 PT SHOOTING CONTEST. Featured in this category were Ray Allen (the all time leader in 3 pt shooting with 2565), Paul Pierce (last year's winner), James Jones, Kevin Durant, Dorell Wright, and Daniel Gibson. Allen and Pierce were the favorites, not only because they are #teamCeltics but because they both had achieved great feats in this category. However, from nowhere, Jones of the Miami Heat was the one that coped the award for 3 point shooting, Very disappointing for Celtic fans such as me...LOL.
Finally, for the most important part of the All-Star weekend, the ALL-STAR BASKETBALL GAME!!! It's the first all-star game I've ever watched so I do not have much of an opinion based on hug experience. However, I gotta say, it was so much fun. I mean, different players from different teams coming together to adapt and play as a team. If you watch basket ball to a good extent and you missed this game, you missed a whole lot. LeBron made history by getting a triple double in the game despite being a member of the losing East team (Jordan is the only other player to achieve such a feat in NBA All star history). In all though, Kobe was crowned MVP for the fourth time (highest ever) and the West went on to win 149-143 in a tight brawl against the best basket ball stars the world has to offer.
That's a summary of how things went at this year's all star weekend. There's a lot more that could have been said but this is supposed to be short so I had to keep it simple and still maximize it's informativeness. For more info on what went down, log on to nba.com. Have a great week y'all. HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY to readers in the U.S!!!
